If I remember correctly, it was the last name of a physicist who lived a few hundred years ago. He came up with an alternative to Newtonian mechanics that made use of minimum principles and energy instead of force. Its called LaGrangian mechanics in his honor. It allows us to solve some problems that are really tough using the Newtonian system. He also did some work with gravitational equilibruim and discovered what are called LaGrange points in gravitational systems involving three bodies.
