Inzaratha-you have got the right track of thought! It is the employers who are stealing from our society. I think you should consider that when a city like Austin sets up their Day Labor centers-that there are a handful of actual Day Laborers that keep coming. The illegals only need to get hooked up once and then just keep working with the sub-contractor until they no longer need each other. This is why and how MILLIONS have flooded the construction industry!

Boricua-If there was an ability to steal work at the old wage-which by the way in most States(Including Texas) is higher by State Law-can't you realize that now there is even more incentive and ability to do it?!

Zcliffon2-Less than 5% of the 12,000,000 invaders are picking crops! Most are in construction! They are grabbing almost every entry level position of an industry that has always been a very honest and profitable trade! I resent the theft of an industry like it very much! After we have lost our nation's ability to construct things in the next generation, we will be very vulnerable!

Note to EVERYBODY!-When you first start a job-like say Construction, you are being paid low wages because you are also recieving an education-Learning while Earning is a hell of alot better situation than College! If after a year you are still only getting minimum wage, then it is probably all you deserve and who's fault is THAT!

Perhaps, but many illegals make more than minimum cause the are under the table meaning no taxes or ssi coming out but no benefits. So it will really just make more people pay off the books and we will lose accountability more. Many illegals here make more equal to or more than minimum but they are day laborers so it depends on who hires them for the day.

The strong conservatives should recalculate their math. For example, CEO's of major Corporations make something like 150 times an hour what a minimum wage worker makes.
So, when that young or old worker in his or her favorite fast food place makes 5.25 cents an hour, your average CEO makes 5.25 times 150 per hour or 787.50 or Seven Hundred and Eight-Seven Dollars and Fifty cents compared to Forty-two Dollars, or 42.00 Dollars for the days work.
But Illegals that are picking your salad ingredients are making twenty dollars a day and living in shacks with no medical care or police to protect them. No real toilet in the building and so on.
Now, which wage earning is going to undercut which American to be lucky enough to have a job like that?
Who is really going to pay fifteen dollars for the same MacDonald salad? Is he really going to care about an American citizen making those wages that illegals made because he and the Republicans will gladly support regulations on sanitation and because it would under not cut a CEO's benefits? Right, and vote for Bush two.

As long as we continue let in people from other countries legal or illegal who will work for less they will compete with others for jobs at lower wages and each group will take less.
When an area is saturated many move to another area and the process continues.
It is no different then outsourcing when a foreign workers wages go up corporations move to another cheap labor country.

Minimum wage is just a gov't feel good ploy to make ones on it feel good. I couldn't pay my dogs vet bills on minimum wages.
Illegals will continue to work for less.

i'm not for illegals but I would not want to do what they do for $6 or $7

well, since illegals aren't normally documented workers, they usually don't get the minimum anyhow. so they probably won't see any benefit at all.
