There are many innocent people sitting in jail due to no contest pleas, disinterested, overbooked, public defenders and lack of $10,000 required down payment for a good lawyer. Sad isn't it. Mmm

Our Judical system was set up as a benefit to the people, however We as a nation must make it mandatory justice remain priority at all cost, therefore our procedural requirements are necessary. Although there are many costs involved in ensuring, “Justice is achieved” the book criminal justice states, “only 6% of convictions were the result of a criminal trial.” The text further states “Surveys have found that 90% of all criminal cases….are resolved by plea” The reason this is allowed is because pleas reduce the court workload. I do not believe that this system is fair. Many people do not have the money for good legal defense as a result, rather than linger in jail waiting for the court appointed defenders, many choose to plea out. The reality is that our courts are overcrowded.
I agree with the statement D.Graham Burnett made when he said, “Lives are lost and won in the courts…Made by imperfect, wrangling, venal and virtuous human beings, using whatever means are at their disposal…This is a frightening thing, not least because any one of us could be accused of a crime.” I do not purport to know the solution to the issues of justice. I only know that we as a nation must continuously strive to see that we do the best that is humanly possible in regards to justice being served not only for the public at large but also in the event that one of us should become the accused.

I'm studying law I cant even remotely conquer that question successfully unless I tell you this, this question is a provocative of many thoughts and some longitudinal research on your behalf. I dont mind questions, as long as the answers are concrete, yet able to be tested in theory, what's all that mumbo jumbo I just said, that I could have said like this, If you have some time do some research, go onto Dept. of Justice website look at there stats, the Uniform Crime Reports, VICAP, these are great resources yes you have a life may your married, single, work your tail off but if you have Internet access investigate, use legal web sites ICLE.ORG, findlaw etc.... If you have enough veracity to ask, which that's a great word, then you have enough power to know that injustice evolves through time and your voice may matter, I encourage people to use their voice and speak for those who have been silenced by our system of gov't, get out there do some research stir up, I could be thanking you some day along with single moms, children, the elderly, be active but stay pro-active

An act of God will create the change. If the rich were afflicted by this lack of justice, the problem would have disappeared years ago. If enough people were to get together, join forces, and become a voice that someone like Bill Gates would listen to, then things might begin to change.

yes its very sad, that the public defenders are so full of s***
they will tell you any thing to get you to plead guilty.
the laws we have now in the u.s. its more like yes you are guilty
and gods knows don't let you be black you are automatically guilty.just because you are black.check out the website www.we are the people.com see how the judicial system really is.
low down and dirty,www.we are the people.com tells the truth
about the laws of today and also about how crooked the IRS is.
and how they made there on laws.and nothing has been done.

I almost agree with you. What working class person can afford competent legal representation. Instead one must plea-bargin his way out. The system is for the rich only.

Yeah, if we can force the Neo-Conservatives to admit that they are partially responsible for the War in Iraq and are willing to serve jail time to repay America for there misdeeds.
But never mind, they are basically to smart to be honest with even themselves.

Unfortunately we are stuck with the system we have, it isn't a good one thats for sure. Sentencing laws are out of control thanks to Regan. The wrong people do the most time.
