Find yourself a nice terry towel and just use a soft sponge with a little dish detergent on it. Clean it up (keep the holes dry) and then when you get to the bowling alley, stick it into the ball polisher to give it a coated shine. That coating they put on will help it stay a tad oil resistant. Then when it comes back through the ball return and you wipe off the oil from the alley, it'll come off easier. That's what I did and it didn't hurt the ball any. I had a 14 lb rubber Brunswick.
