It's not bikes that are dangerous!
The modern motorcycle is better balanced, more responsive, handles superbly, brakes extremely efficiently, and is a joy to ride.

Having sung the praises for modern motor cycles, I have to say, that it's the minority of riders, that give the impression that bikes are dangerous, there are the morons, out there who delight in pipe lining in heavy traffic, ride recklessly, and take unbelievable risks!
Then there are the morons, that think it's cool to "pop a wheelie" and show off, on the road, impressed I'm not!
1.The racer that "pops a wheelie "does not except in rare cases own the bike, and does so at the end of the race they have just won!
2.The transmission components on race bikes are replaced after every race.
3. Often the gearbox is changed.
4.The tyres are replaced.

So when the moron, pops a wheelie, the driving sprocket is being damaged, the driving sprocket is being damaged, there is a tremendous strain on the chain and all to show off!
It's also not uncommon for riders to loose control of the bike doing this!
It's not the bike, but some of the moronic riders that give the wrong impression that motor cycles are dangerous.
"Keep The Faith Man" be "A Free Spirit" and ride sensibly!

Ex biker!

Motorcycles aren't dangerous!! Its the person riding who is the potential danger. Or other idiots on the road who don't understand
the movements of motorcycles on the road.
If you are a confident rider on a bike which suits your motorcyling ability and experience. ie. a 125cc for beginner or 1000cc for someone with more than 3 years experience. Then the dangers are greatly reduced.
Motorcyclig is one of my favourite past times and I enoy every trip made (even the daily commute to work in torrential rain) If you have the opportunity to ride, then take it!
I have been riding for just over three years and have come off my bike once (in the ice). Not a single scratch on either the bike or myself.
Its up to you but I think it would be a big mistake.

no you should not . most poeple who say they are dnagerous dont have a clue. its no more dangerous then a car or flying on a plane. its like anything its how you use it.
whats dangerous is idiots in cars using mobile phones while driving or the ones who have no idea about observation. thats dangerous. i have ridden many bikes i am still here and still ride a bike.

walking, riding a push bike, smoking , flying , using trains , cooking it all has risks its part of life. get on with the riding what do most of these so called experts know.
just a little fact for you.
in wiltshire last year i did a bike safe course and one of the figures thrown at us was out of 534 accidents in wiltshire only 9 were bikes. so whats more dangerous?

A gun is dangerous in the wrong hands, just as a m/bike is.... however accidents do happen even if its not ur fault so you should be aware that if you hit something or something hits you, it is you that is most likely to come off worse.... statistically bikes are for more dangerous BUT far more fun... if you enjoy your bike n ride as safe as poss, then keep it, at the end of the day its your choice.....if you abuse the road no matter what form of transport you use it will abuse you....happy riding

Really, the answer to this question depends on just one thing: Did you buy your motorcycle because so many people say they're cool?
lol.
First off, don't EVER do anything because "so many people" say anything about it.
Learn to live your own life.
Especially with motorcycles, no one else is going to make up for your mistakes - if and when they occur - you have to be responsible for your own actions.
Take a Motorcycle Safety Foundation course.
Or take the Rider's Edge program offered by Harley-Davidson.
And the motorcycles themselves are NOT inherently dangerous.
A motorcycle can't cause any damage to anyone or anything without some yahoo on top of it to make it do so.
I've been riding a long time, and I've been down a few times, and I've never gotten up thinking "Dang this thing is dangerous!"
Doing dangerous things on motorcycles is dangerous.
As far as motorcyclists and fatalities this and cause of death that......
the true fact is that most motorcyclists who are involved in fatal accidents have less than 3 months of riding experience.
and when I say "most" I really mean 92%.
Most die of head trauma, heavily due to not wearing a helmet.
But please. When operating a vehicle with such a high potential for fatal error - I think you have to examine your own maturity level in even considering being influenced by outside factors in regards to what to do.

I do aggree that you are more vulnerable on a motorbike but it's not the machine that is at fault

The fault lies firmly in two brackets. Firstly the "idiot" riders and there are some bad and some good and secondly the idiot inconsiderate other road users. Of them there definately seems to be a few more. I have met some of them.

I don't have the answer but we as motorcyclists must ride as safe as we can and look ahead to try to avoid the dopey git that seems hell bent on getting us

I suppose that it's the education that is really at fault here. It needs to come from government level to legislate to force us all to improve our driving skills. I'm all for it if it makes me and all of mine a little bit safer on the roads

Sorry I didn't mean to get on a soap box there but you must aggree I do have a point about the car only drivers they seem to think that we just don't exist or if we do then perhaps we just don't matter. I really don't know

Motorcycles are probably not as safe as cars, but everything in life is a risk and only you can decide if it's worth it. I personally feel a bike in the hands of a safe rider is fine.
If your a responsible safe rider and enjoy riding then you already know the answer, why should you give up your bike because of other people's opinions?

Should you go sodomize someone if people say you're gay? Should you apply for a handicapped parking sticker if someone calls you stupid? Remember what your mom told you about jumping off a cliff if your friends did?

It's your choice, and though you are more exposed on a motorcycle I do not believe they are inherently more dangerous than cars. If you understand the differences (bikes are smaller, faster, and more maneuverable) and keep your wits about you, motorcycles are fine.

The real question is, are YOU dangerous?

NO dont do anything just because what people say about it. Make up your own mind. you bought for some reason, dont sell it due to others thoughts.. sell it if YOU think its too dangerous, for you. Life is dangerous. think for yourself. the fact you are even asking ppl on here shows you cant think for yourself. Get an opinion of your own, do what YOU want because its about how you feel and what you desire. motorcycles are for individuals, people who have an identity- sell it.
