I don't think there's really a politican out there today that can say they live that standard 100% of the time. It's a nice idea, and in a grand utopia, that's how it would be. But this is the real world, and that's a fairytale.

Today, it doesn't matter what party the candidate runs for, they are always basically the same--power hungry, neglectful, careless, hungry for fame and fortune. They are eloquent in their promises, but have amnesia worse than anything when it comes to remembering what they said they were going to do.

It's a shame, but that's modern American politics.

Im a Democrat and I think JFK was right when he said this. I dont think this country owes me anything but so many others had contribute to make this a great country for us....Republicans and Democrats alike. In fact a lot people from both parties had made the supreme sacrifice for the rest of us. I hope more and more of us will take this sentiment to our heart.

Yep.. I don't see dems whining all the time about the overly wealthy paying a little more in taxes. Let's face it.. The overwhelming majority of rich people are never going to see this war first hand.. They should at least do a little more to help pay for it.. And plenty of dems have fought in the war.. Here's one right now.. me.

I really fail to see where certain issues like raising the minimum wage would benefit the people that are trying to get it done. If they really wanted to benefit themselves than they'd vote for more tax cuts for themselves.. The wealthy.

I would have to say at the time that JFK was right when he was addressing the Citizens of this country. However, most politicians don't ask what they can do for their country, but what can their country do for them.

I don't think so. That's why I left the Democratic party, and why I no longer believe in any politicians. After watching Congress argue about what was considered ethical, and after watching so many of them hem and haw about doing anything about the number of politicians succumbing to greed and corruption, I decided I couldn't stomach them anymore.

you're kidding, right? i mean considering that a large percentage of the people that vote democrat are on some form of government subsidized assistance, i think it safe to say the average democrats question is more like,"why isn't my country doing more for ME?"

Absolutely. Look at what the Dems have done in just their first day in office. They have put teeth in the Ethics committee, worked to raise the minimum wage, are working to pass stem cell research bills, etc. They have already improved conditions.

I think the Dems did a great job doing for their country when they got the minimum wage raised.

I'm a Democrat and I never did like that saying. It kinda sounds better the other way around.
