No, not at all.

Each of his books "stands" alone, and will give you enough background that it will all make sense.

The first one I read was "Kiss The Girls", and I was HOOKED!!!

they are all excellent books. No you don't have to start there but it helps to understand Alex cross's character and where he's been and what he's been through. i have read every book. alone came a spider and kiss the girls are 2 of the first and very good. all the ones with Alex cross are good. I am not as fond as the ones where he writes with another author but I still read them. Kiss the girls was made into a movie

You don't have to read them in order. I've only read about half of them, but the ones I have read have been really great. They are suspensful and usually have a twist at the end that sometimes you have no idea it's coming. My fav. book of the ones I've read is Mary, Mary and they are definitely worth reading.

The Women's Murder Club series by Patterson is really good too.

Each of his books stands alone, but to read them in order does allow you to be introduced to each character that runs through the series.
They are an excellent read.
