There are trial version of Microsoft software but no truly free download of Microsoft Word. However, you can use AbiWord which is a Microsoft Word knockoff. It is completely free and works almost exactly like Word. It can open, edit and save .doc files. What AbiWord does lack are the more advanced features in Word that most people never use anyway. You can download it at http://www.filehippo.com/download_abiword/
Some people have mentioned OpenOffice which is a fine but it is a complete office suite, offering a word processor, database, presentation editor and spreadsheet. If you only want a word processor then stick with AbiWord (download size 5.16MB) versus OpenOffice (download size 94MB).
If you want, you can try Microsoft Office 2007 free for 60 days. The trial website is http://www.microsoft.com/products/info/product.aspx?view=22&pcid=04ea691a-7698-417d-bf3b-2d1ce6cce13a&type=trl&crumb=catpage&catid=fab9617a-57ff-4789-9397-6dac071b19b0#ProductDetails

There is no place to LEGALLY download Microsoft Word for free. Microsoft Word is a commerical package, and can only be purchased. There are free alternatives, notably OpenOffice, go to http://www.openoffice.org/ , it is mostly compatible with Word(tm) in terms of file formats and features. This will probably satisty your needs.

You can't download Microsoft office for free. You can download OpenOffice which is FREE and a very good alternative to Microsoft Office. Here is the link:

Microsoft word is not available for download. You can use WordPad which is very similar to Word, and pre-installed with your operating system.
Just click on Start, Programs, Accessories, then WordPad. That should do what you need.

I searched for a site, but was unsuccessful. However, I did go to Open Office & downloaded their office software. It is suppose to be compatible with Microsoft Office. So far, so good. You might check it out. It's free.
