If John Calvin Jr. the 30th President of the US was known as being stern and almost mean, why did he win the reelection by a landslide? (More than half the states voted unanimously for him)

Same reason Bush Won a second term. Even though the vast majority of American Voters may not fully agree with a Candidate line by line.
Consistantly they will still vote for an individual who demonstrates a Stoic, Resolute Confidence in what they believe.
That is the Current Presidents strongest attribute.....He just doesn't give a **** what people think of Him. That's so cool.
