Probably at least 2 years before there's a price drop. The blue ray diode is in short supply, so it's going to be expensive for Sony to buy it, which in turn means that the PS3 will stay around the same price for a while.

My guess is it will probably drop anywhere from 50 to 100 bucks since that seems to be the normal progression of price drops.

The PS3 was expensive to make in the first place. There have been wide reports that Sony loses about $200 USD for each one sold. It makes for a cheap Blu-Ray player for the most part. The 2007-2008 holiday season does not look so hot either. As soon as Sony gets their act together in at least two more years is when we may start seeing price drops of $50 to $100.

Two things will drive it a price drop

1. When supply overcomes the demand for the units.
2. Competition between like devices (XBox360, PS3, Wii) begins to slow, one normally will drop their price, and the others follow suit to stay "competitive"

I'd say the price will drop approx. $50 or so within the next 18 months.

It is going to stay high as long as Blue Ray Devices stay high.
