Religions are cults. This statement came up in a Faith Formation Committee Meeting that I was in. I didn't agree with the assertion at first but I think that if you look up the definition of the word cult and spend some time thinking about your own religion you might find it to be true and kind of interesting and even kind of funny.
I am assuming you a a member of an organized religion. I apologize if that is not true.
I'm a Catholic and we have some creepy rules, too. It was a rule at one time that all Catholic Alters had to store artifacts. Artifacts in this case being bones of a Saint. Our local church has some tiny bone fragments from a couple of Saints stored in the alter. As I understand it, this is no longer an absolute requirement for Catholic Churches.
Anyway. I say don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Religions are quirky but they can do a lot of good, too. If your concern is that Islam is inherently violent, I can assure you that it is no more so than Christianity. I know and work with many Muslims.
I want to add a couple of things now that I have read some other responses to your question. Thanks for bringing it up. We should talk more openly about our spiritual beliefs. And, we live in a country that guarantees freedom of religion and freedom of speech. If you're not getting offended often, you're not talking to honest people.

Interesting observations and conclusions, but I would have to say much of this is in the eye of the observer, less based on actual opinions by Muslims.
Are people offended by the word "church?" Churches literally are not buildings, but rather bodies of Christian followers. Most modern Americans would define a church as a building.
I suspect many Muslims are unaware of the definition of a mosque as you explain it. I have been acquainted with quite a few Muslims, and most of them are nice people who don't want to kill anybody.
So I would say trust your observations more than what you have read. I suspect many Muslims have never actually read the Koran or understood much of what it says. I know many Christians are relatively ignorant of the Bible.
Not necessarily good but probably more benign than you believe.

The word "mosque" is a corruption of the Arabic word "masjeed", and simply means a place for prayer. There is nothing in the Qur'an about mosques.

Wow! Even Fox News hasn't sunk this low!
By the way, the act of "sajdeh" is bowing to the majesty of God, and masjed (mosque) is the place formally designated for this purpose.
