The quick answer is: Globalization is the opening of international markets to create one global market. The theory is that with the entire world connected as a free market that there will be an advantage for consumers, employers and employees. However, there is a downside, mostly because of 'incomplete' globalization. An example is environmental regulations. Since some countries do not have good environmental protections or do not enforce them, companies will exploit this and shift pollution and environmental damage to those countries. Also, some countries suffer when their primary industries cannot compete in the global market due to some other country's natural advantage. This can cause unemployment, recession, and general strife locally. IN theory, once the process of globalization is more complete and each region finds its global niche and its own natural advantages, then the global economy will stabilize and things get better. However, environmental regulations need to be heeded worldwide and basic human rights and fair wages need to be paid worldwide so that no corporation can come and exploit some disadvantaged population.
Globalization is not necessarily a bad thing, but the greedy folks who would exploit it are.

Globalization is the blending of cultures and commercial enterprises happening across the world right now at increasingly rapid rates due to the speed of travel and ideas. Corporate entities contribute greatly to globalization. American companies such as Coca-Cola, McDonald's and Frito Lay market their products all over the world. At the same time, much of U.S. service work has been outsourced to India, and its manufacturing capabilities have mostly been replaced with Chinese products. This economic interdependence causes countries to develop a "global" mindset; that what is good for the client country is good for us. It is also a tendency towards a philosophy that there be more standardization of legal sanctions and trade policies between countries.
Many people see globablization as a positive trend which will help sort out differences between nations. Others see it as a negative trend in that individual nations may lose some of their uniqueness in an attempt to emulate or catch up to other nations.
Anthropologically, large states have a tendency to split after a certain time period, so any global entity based on politics alone would be hard to achieve and keep together, but financial globalization is much more feasible.

Globalization refers in general to the worldwide integration of humanity and the compression of both the temporal and spatial dimensions of planetwide human interaction." It "has aggravated many of the region's most chronic problems--such as the pronounced degree of economic exploitation and social inequality that have characterized Latin America since it came under European colonial domination in the sixteenth century.

It's a corporate backed strategy whereby laws have been changed in order to fascilitate the demise of the manufacturing base of America through "unfair" trade policies in the name of profit and cheaper goods and services at the expense of our economy.
