Gestapo and SD, both of the SS were the secret service of the Nazis. The Gestapo were responsible for roundups of Jews for resettlement in the East. The SD was a sister agency within the SS responsible mainly for foreign intelligence. Their paths crossed and overlapped in many cases as was the framework of hitler's Nazis germany.

Well originally it was the SA, the early Nazi party paramilitary group. Then in 1934, the SS dominated, making the SA obsolete. Hitler liked the create parallel organizations so there would always be internal squabble, ensuring that no one institution gained power.
The SS and Gestapo were responsible for hunting down Jews, ethnic minorities, and political enemies.

Everyone's right, except dixie deb. SS, being a GERMAN oganization, was an abbreviation for a GERMAN word: Schutzstaffel, meaning "protective squadron".
Nazis didn't speak English on a day-to-day basis.
