Yes, the falling tree is heard by other critters in the woods. If, on the other hand, there are no creatures in the woods to hear the falling tree, then the following explanation would apply:

Sound is a sensation generated in the audio center of the brain, usually in response to information coming from the ear. If there is no brain to generate the sensation of sound, then there is no sound. This, however, doesn't mean there are no sound waves produced by the falling tree, just no living creature with a brain that can generate the sensation of sound.

Yes, the tree falling causes air wave expansion and contraction thus it makes a sound. But I suppose this question really goes back to the a priori and a posteriori issue. The tree falling would be a priori because it exists independent of human experience. This all assumes that you belong to a school of philosophy that believes that
the universe exists independently of human conciousness and that our conciousness is only a part of it.

one definition of sound is (mechanical vibrations transmitted by an elastic medium) so falling trees do make a sound in the forest even when no one is there to hear them.

It doesn't make a sound until someone hears it. That means that the tree destiny is not certain until someone verifies it. Its like if a cat were on a box with a device that may, or may not, release a poisonous gas. so you cant know if the cat has died or not until someone verifies it. that means that things doesn't exist until someone have seen them, touch them, hear them, or smell them. It applies tho quantum physics, cause you cant know where is a particle until you check it.

the simple fact that in your own question you say "there to hear
it" means that even yourself admit that it does since "sound"
represents information transposed by the human brain. in other
words if your mom says she cut her finger chopping onions, and
you were'nt there to see then that must mean that she is lying
to you. thus personally if your not in the forest, you won't hear
it, but imagine you have superman like hearing, then you could
hear the tree falling hundreds of mile away. perception my
friend is the root of all arguments and opinions past present and
future.

It will only make a sound if there is somebody or some creature there to hear it. Otherwise it just makes ripples in the air

it does if it doesnt it defies the laws of physics
its like saying just cuz u cant prove something happens does that means it didnt happen
if something happens 100/100 times when u observe it, it can be safely said that it will happen 100% of the time even when u are not there as an observer
