I have an older '83 Datsun 4 x truck that has always been a good reliable truck. Without warning all of a sudden it starts making a tapping noise, and in low gear it has little power. I have not driven it since, because I think it may be a rod ready to go, even though it has oil in it. Could it be a lifter or what? Once you get it in a higher gear it runs fine but still has that tapping noise.

You may have a spark plug that is loose, or not sealing in the cylinder correctly. I would check to make sure all plugs are tight and firmly set in place. Some times during spark plug replacement, the plugs are over-tightened and the threads inside the cylinder strips. If this is the case, you will need a heli-coil to correct the problem.
