I have a science project. We have to work with a partner. I arranged to meet with my science partner after school. I like her, but I don't know her very well.
Then I have my best friend in the whole entire world. About 10 minutes ago, she called and asked me if she could come over tomorrow. Her parents will be out and they don't want her staying alone. (They are overprotective.)
I said yes to her before I remembered I had already agreed to go over to Sarah's house.

Fact 1: The project is due in a month.

Fact 2: My best friend has done a whole bunch of amazing things for me
Fact 3: I don't want to flake out on Sarah
Fact 4: My friend needs somewhere to go after school until 4: 45.
Fact 5:It's the day before Friday, the day I planned to go to Sarah's house and the day my friend needs to come over.
Fact 6: My friend rarely asks favors of me
Fact 7: I don't want to leave my friend out while Sarah and I work on our project

What do I do? Help! Please! If you do you may get a best answer!

First of all, thanks for all the answers!
But my friend, lets call her Mandy, REALLY needs to come over.
It's not "hanging out." Her parents will be out.
She's younger than me. She's only 11.
(I'm 13)
And I also have to work on my project with Sarah. Who is also my friend, but we are from different groups and Kylie is my best friend.

Let her stay at your place while working on your project. You don't want to get a rep as a lousy do nothing partner. Or tell your partner what happen and see if you work on it at your place or bring your friend along. But do the project, a month goes by really fast and other assignments come up.

Why not both? Ask your partner if your friend could accomapny you to her house. If yes then I'm sure your friend can find something to do. If not, since the project is a month away, ask your science partner if you could meet over the weekend. In this way your friend won't feel bad and you are still fulfilling your obligations. If you decide to postpone the meeting make sure that your partner sees that you made an effort to get ahead on the project. Look up facts, books, articles, or come up with some ideas, anything that will let her know that you are serious about the work. G'luck!!!

Is there a way you could all hang out together? At the library or something?

If not, I recommend you call your friend and cancel. It's tough, but you made a commitment to Sarah first.

The sooner you call the better because then she'll have more time to find somewhere else to go.

Apologize and maybe set a date for hanging out in the future.

OMG grow up! you are being retarded, what are you so worried about? Just telll your friend it's cool if she stays the night or whatever, but you already have plans to work on your science project and she can chill at your house untill you get back home. Then don't be gone too long, like only an hour or two.. WOW that was tough, huh? lol BREATHE

just tell Sarah the situation then there r two possibilities
1) she may understand and u can change spend that day with your close friend.
2) she may not be willing to compromise. in that case u can make a decision of spending that day with your close friend ..only try convincing Sarah later ..

Can your best Friend come with you maybe her input could help your project. If she is only 11 take her with i am sure your other friend will understand . If you don't want her to help with your project have her watch TV till you are done .Then when you are done you two can go home.

always put school first, friendships second no matter what. As for working on a school project together... just get the project done and do not let tiffs or anything else interfere.

Well, if Sarah is really your friend she would undertand that you have this important project that you need to take care of. You can make time later to hang out...
