It depends on what you want to study. US New And World Report magazine has a yearly ranking of US Universities by field of study. For example: Harvard is great for Law, Government, Medicine, but I wouldn't go there for Engineering.

There are similar studies available in Canada, eh?

I think it depends on what you want to study.

If I wanted to become a doctor, I wouldn't go to Juilliard.

If I wanted to become a famous painter, I wouldn't go to M.I.T.

(If you must know, Juilliard is the best school in North America for music. MIT is famous for engineering, science etc).

So, really there isn't one "top" university. Some may say Harvard or Yale, but if you pay a lot of money, does that make it a better school? Do you always 'get what you pay for' when university is concerned?
