I would guess the phone. The best way to know is to find someone else with the same carrier and try poor reception areas and see if there is a difference.
For me, I could not get coverage in my house with Verizon with new phones. So, I switched to Cingular and have no problem getting reception in my house.

Most likely it's the age of the phone. Depending on what cell phone company you use, you can go to one of their retail stores (corporate owned) and they should be able to tell you what the coverage is like in your area.
If you have a GSM Phone, your SIM card could be out dated and this would be an easy fix and help reception. But in the majority of cases, it's just the age of the phone....5 years is a great life for any phone but it might be time for you to consider purchasing a new phone from your favorite carrier.

It could be either, but probably the age of the phone does not help.
Try and find a friend that uses the same company and compare reception at the same location.

The age of the phone and style prob have alot to do with ur poor reception. some phones just dont get good service area coverage regardless of what phone company you have. the spots u have trouble i bet however otehr phones loose some of their strength (as tower placement has alot to do with reception as well) but the newer phones have stronger radio waves and whatnot to keep good signla strenght.
since ur phone is over 2 years old if u like ur phone company u can get a new one very cheap if not free as long as u agree to a new 2 year deal.

It can be both. There are some phones that get better reception than others. It can also be the company. Try upgrading your phone first and see if you get any improvement in reception.

It could be the phone because for a cell phone it is very, very old. Why haven't you gotten a new phone? It could also be where you live and your provider. But, yeah get a new phone with an antenna.

Honestly it could be both.
Verizon has the best reception... but a 5 year old cellphone really needs to be replaced.

Your phone, the new system is like all digital. Your phone probably runs most of the time in analog. That would be the problem.
Get a new phone, and have a wonderful day =)

Both. . .it depends a lot on the phone though. . .i had a cell that was great and had great reception, and I randomly got another (because it wasn't pretty). . .it was crappy rather, and it didn't have signal in places I originally did.. . .

its probably your phone. the phone can probably have its software updated and this could help with the reception.
