I think he just wants to earn a significant sum for his farewell years. Because right now, he really is not first choice anymore in Real and I don't think that other European teams will give a hefty sum of money for his talents. So I think it's best for him to be in MLS: He'll receive a Good pay and he's a star there.
Let's just see, maybe he will play with more dedication because he's given a chance in the US. But definitely his reputation for greatness will diminish because the best players play in Europe.

Money its all about money. L.A. needs better audience and have the budget for the best attraction. Turns out MLS is pulling everything it can to compete with the other sports (NFL, NBA, MLB). An example of this is the almost New Chivas team which boosted the Latin especially Mexican audience in the League. Ultimately yeah it is only about the money.

Personally I freaked out when I heard he was coming to play here.Freaked out in a good way.The money he is actually being paid is only like $7.7 million. The rest was sponsership stuff or something.
I became a soccer fan over the summer after watching the World Cup.But it's hard to be one here in the US when they hardly ever show our teams play or anything. There is no support. The Fox Spanish sports channel is almost the only one with soccer ever on it.I would love it if by getting him it would help the sport gain more support and become better over here. But I have a feeling it's going to be one of those temporary things. :(

Actually, I think he's setting himself up for life after soccer. Perhaps a movie career? Perhaps his wife will give a movie career a shot (since she has no other discernible talents)? Perhaps coaching? American citizenship? A run against Schwarzenegger for the governor gig? ;)
I think he'll play like he means it while he's on the roster. But I don't anticipate that he'll still be on the roster five years from now.

He's the biggest star to play in USA since Pele! Besides it gives his wife Victoria a chance to hang with her girl Katie Holmes somemore! It Ain't about the money, he made plenty in Europe and she was a Spice Girl. Nuff said!

Why would it be about money? Its not as if they dont already have enough!
The real reason is his wife wants to mix in more celebrity circles so she was probably like "David, we're moving to LA!"

I think he's just interested in moving to Los Angeles.
However, the money is quite nice.
