If you are referring to those hippies from the 60s and 70s, they grew older. The war in Vietnam ended and Nixon was gone. With those two objectives met, there was little to protest. Ford seemed like a pretty decent person, but the worst thing he did was to pardon Nixon for what he "may have done". That was a big mistake.
Things settled down in the 70s and many hippies found themselves, then found themselves in need of something better, so they went to school. So, all those anti-establishment people are now part of the establishment... or they are retired from it.

I know plenty of hippies. They have mostly assimilated into society- as professors, store owners, accountants- I even know one hippie who is a police officer. This of course doesn't keep a few of them from growing pot in their backyards.

The government found'm all and turned them into normies!!!! Its so sad to see an ex-hippie who has lost the desire to smoke weed.....First,hippies...next...THE WORLD!!!!(LOL jus playin my history teacher and his brother are old hippies and they still live like they did back in the day...they are the coolest people Iv ever met!!)

a nod to what avis said, the 'establishment' they railed against back in the day, they have become a part of it. they work in gov't or have big jobs in big companies that make or sell they very things they said were the destruction of mother earth.

I didn't realize they'd gone anywhere. They're getting old, bald, crippled up, but they're still around. I see them every day in our community.
