Pretty clever rise to power. Now that he's nationalizing everything, and now that he IS the nation, he'll soon have no political competition and no middle-class to shorten his reign.
Stalin would be proud.

I like him and agree with od its odaly..in addition to wanting sell oil cheaper to Americans living in poverty, Chavez was the first to offer help during Katrina..offering MANY portable generators, barrels of oil, portable hospitals, tons of water and food and other aid..Bush let the aid sit in a warehouse while people in New Orleans suffered and died. He, in essence, cared more about the victims than our own president.
Chavez also gives a lot of the oil profits from Venezuela's oil to help them by giving his people subsidized food, housing, health care, etc. I would much rather my money when I pumped gas at Citgo went to help poor people than further enrich the Saudis, especially seeing how 15 of the 19 hijackers were Saudi..but in truth none of the immense profits from Saudi oil go to the people of the country whose resource it is, but to the wealthy elite and Saudi princes.
Chavez also raised literacy in his country to 100%. In addition his has courage in stating the truth about Bush..he is a devil..few would do this given attempts here to have Chavez assassinated or have his assassination called for by so called spiritual "leaders" like Pat Robertson.
He was also democratically elected several times. I think he is fine and way better than Bush.

Verizon runs the media down there. Chavez is acting like Castro, kicking the corrupt American corporations that are influencing elections. I think he is harmless to us. Bush and friends don`t like him because his country has nationalized oil and is going to base Venezuelan oil value on the Euro rather then the dollar.

I think that he is a loud mouth. I also think he should concern himself more with his population than that of American affairs. I think he is self-centered and adjudicates himself as a superior citizen and as a socialist
dictator in which he is truly not. His past actions towards his citizens have kept him in seat and I must admit that his government is operated on a strict note. His provocations to USA and the world make him look bad. His usage of adjectives towards other country leaders and slander of the USA make him a sore thumb to the economy of the world. I think he is a man of his word but can't refrain from his mouth which is the element that is destroying him. I do not agree with his socialistic policy and I don't buy his CITGO gas either. I owe him nothing and expect him never to ask anything of me. I think he needs to apologies to George Bush, the American People, and the rest of the offended world. He is heading down a destructive path that could lead to the fall of the Venezuelan People to a Socialist bigot.

He is another one, that poses no real threat, but everyone sees him as an enemy to capitalist oil conglomerates, so he will be considered a WMD packing maniac soon.....well after the CIA goes over to his country, and starts the propoganda war against him, if they haven't already.
I think Americans need to worry more about our own country, than everyone else's!

Its hilarious....How people do not know what they talking about....Chavez although he is rude...the man has given New York City Oil at very low cost for families and people in need to heat up their homes for low costs during the winter...someone that has to be burn in hell does not do that....In comparison to Fidel Castro...the man is a Saint ...In cuba people are stranded with no way to get out...people celebrate this mans dying life....while Chavez is like Roosevelt that keeps getting elected into office with no defeat.....The man speaks his mind about what he thinks unlike Bush who speaks his mind about what Chaney thinks....

Most people on here will go "Oh he's evil, he is satan's son, he is not democratic so he sucks," but to me he is actually a pretty good leader. Crazy, but good. He is knowing how to TRULY make his country independent by it controlling its own industries. I don't agree with some of his beliefs but in general he's got the balls to do the job. You get out of what the majority thinks when you consider other points of view.

Wannabe Castro.
Wait until all opposition media is suppressed. Already non-renewed a private TV station's operating license.
Next he wants to eliminate term limits on his Presidency.

He's a nut case, and a despot in the making. He deliberately failed to renew the license of a TV station that was in his opposition - in other words, he is silencing the opposition. Sooner or later Venezuela will wake up to what he really is. I'm surprised someone hasn't assassinated him. And guess what conservatives - I'm considered "liberal"! Hugo Chavez is a NUT.
