I am now 8 months pregnant and my 18 year old sister has had no experiance of being around a pregnant woman. How do I show her in an experiment how hard it is to get up from a chair or the couch, or trying to pick up something off the floor?

If you have a child (or friend's child) that is around 20 or 30 lbs, have them sit on her lap and then hang on to your sister's neck and then have your sister try to gracefully get off the couch. Tell your child to hang on and your sister can not adjust how the child is hanging on to her. She will understand then!

I agree with dino, great idea! Get something heavy. Even a full bag of potatoes hung from around the neck and placed properly will get the point across for the couch issue. As for off the floor, even a bookbag filled with books (30 or so pounds worth) and put on her front, tightly, will show her how hard it is to bend over.

I remember picking up things with my toes instead of bending over.

Well, she wouldn't be able to experience the additional weight of being pregnant this way, but maybe she could tie a pillow around her mid section with a belt. She'll be able to experience the added bulk and how hard it is to get up and down or bend over to tie her shoes. Good luck with the experiment and your pregnancy.
