I get what you all are saying. Rude people are, indeed, usually the ignorant ones, but what I mean is, people use it as a synonym for rude and it's wrong.

another misuse of the word...
ignorant is not synonymous with stupid...
to be without knowledge is not the same as being incapable of knowledge...

It's ignorant in the sense that rude people are being deliberately ignorant of the social requirements of other people, but you are right that it is often used as a catch-all word for something we find offensive. But, this is how language change is accomplished - through shifts in common usage! If this is how the word is being used in modern society, eventually it will be internalized and codified and we will forget that it ever had the sense of "not knowing."

Actually, ignorant can be used in the context you're using. Talking in a movie theater can be described as ignorant because the definition of ignorant isn't just a lack of knowledge, but also a lack of training. So one could say that rude behavior is a result of a lack of training in etiquette.

It makes sense to me. When someone is being rude, it's probably because they're ignorant. Like when someone's being judgemental, they're really ignorant of whatever factors or history are involved with who they're judging.

Do people really still say that in that way? I thought that particular turn of phrase went out with mall hair.

It's funny, but I like it better when people use "ironic" incorrectly.

I know what it means and I never heard someone say that, mostly they say they're jackass's or something.
And that's not funny...
