Why exactly would someone use it? Does it actually keep you from sweating? does it keep your skin soft? Where should it not be used? I would appreciate detailed answers. thanks.

Baby powder is very absorbent, that's why it's used in baby's diapers. I have found that if I am going to be wearing tight or snug clothing, smoothing baby powder all over my arms and legs makes it a lot easier to get dressed. It doesn't really provide a lot of moisture, but it will keep your skin from getting irritated after shaving.

i think baby powder is useless and harmful-it does not stop you from sweating or keep your skin soft although it may have a very temporary drying effect---so, when it gets in the air you will almost always end up breathing it in--how does it get back out of your lungs? (yuck) and if you use it on your skin, it just leaves a residue which feeds bacteria growth, (which is the cause of odor in the first place), or worse- it can cause skin iritation and fungus growth. it is used, i guess, to get a baby's behind very dry because it is almost always wet--but the best thing you can do is change the baby more often and use an ointment like desitin, which coats the skin to keep moisture away. it is NOT good to use powder on a baby, period. tender young lungs will have a hard time if the baby breaths it in (and the baby will absolutely breath it in if you use it on her/him) or any foreign substance. a long time ago it was suggested to put baby powder in dirty hair to soak up the oils and make it look and feel cleaner till you can shampoo, it but i think that is another good way to breath it in and bacteria can grow in your scalp as well.
although it smells nice, there are better things to use to keep from smelling bad--you should not try to cover up the odor, you should remove the cause and powder is more like the cause than the cure--this goes for anything with corn starch in it as well. if you want a powder for foot odor (not for use on a baby!), try allum--ask for it at the pharmacy.
i hope this helps.

baby powder- to make u feel cool / fresh. usually used for babies / kids, some adults too.
it keeps you from sweating. its like a face powder/ compact only that it is white & powder - imagine your face powder, it keeps you from sweating & having that oily face, right? that's almost the same... u know what i mean?
it makes skin soft, depends on the type.. some encriched w/ milk & skin conditioner - w/c can nourish your skin to keep it soft & smooth.
you can use it practically in any part of your body (externally) in moderation. do not apply it on broken skin (wounds) & keep it away from the eyes & nose. for infants (0-6mos.), its better if you use the baby compact powder (pigeon brand) to avoid inhilation.

uh...yea! It IS made for babies so I am pretty sure you will be safe! I mean you can't eat it, lol, but you CAN use it to help stop sweating-it helps keep you dry,to rub on your skin to make it soft and to soothe it if it is red, itchy, or irritated, or to soak up excess oil on the scalp if you don't have time to wash your hair.

Baby powder is NOT safe...it contains talc, which is a cancer causing agent...there have been studies linking the long term use of Talc based powders and cervical cancer in women. If you want to use a powder, I would suggest Burt's Bees powder for babies...it smells much prettier than baby powder. I use it everyday...I sprinkle a little in my undergarments to keep fresh.

It absorbs liquids like sweat or water and it keeps you from getting a rash. If it wasn't safe, why would they put it on babies?

Perfectly safe. It doesn't keep you from sweating, but it absorbs moisture and helps keep your skin smooth.

It keeps you soft and dry. You can put it anywhere (except internally that is). I put it on my kids after their bath and sometimes I use it too.

I tried. . .it does NOT prevent sweating. It just dries out pimples and stuff. Good makeup base. . .in a way. . .if you don't overdo it and make yourself look like a corpse.
