Whatever you do, don't give in to it! I've done that and then not written anything for months.
What I've found that works is when I hit a wall (creatively or just a plot snag), I either pull out another story I'm working on and read through/ work on that -OR- I skip to another scene in the same story.
Some revision might help you figure out why you're stuck and get around it.
I also will listen to music to try and get into a particular mood for the story/scene I'm working on, or read a book in the same genre I'm working on to see that yes, a book can be completed!
Hope this helps!
(If all else fails, just start writing down what you did all day or make snarky commentary on TV ads... Anything to keep thinking and writing!)

Listen to music; that always helps me.
Try taking a walk and observing people and things.
My favorite method of eliminating writer's block is writing it a letter detailing why you hate it and need to overcome it.

you can meditate . if you are writing a novel or a book , rather than an essay or something , you can watch TV, read other books , or think of things you've been through or stories from other peoples life that have been interesting times and get inspiration from that . or you could even try going to a public place , by yourself so you can have total concentration . look at everyone around you , how they act , who they are with and guess what kind of relationship they have ,or what kind of life they must lead and build on that . make them your characters

Maybe you need a break in the routine of writing.
Take a long walk, truely smell the flowers along the way, look around and see what makes your mind start whirring and go home and write about that!
Or take a precious memory and think about it and look at it and see what it inspires!!

I always think about what I've recently written when I'm laying in bed at night. I always seem to get my best ideas then, or at random moments in the day. Another thing you can do is to go back a few sentences and try to re-write them.

Watch a little tv. It will get your mind wandering about the plot of the show and the commercials. It may start to give you some ideas. It works for me.

Go for a long walk somewhere you've never been, it's not for getting ideas, simply to clear your head. It works for me.
Also, try conciously not writing for a few days, you may find ideas simply come to you when you know you won't write them down - unless they're really good of course!!

Just keep writing. Force yourself. Try writing something different from what you usually write. If you write fantasy, write romance. Or vice versa. And so on. Keep a journal. But don't stop.
