H= Hydrogen 8
O= Oxygen 4

But I need to know how to do those that are in parenthesis like:

the 2 goes with everything in parentheses so in your problem it would be O=Oxygen 2 H=Hydrogen 2 Mg=Magnesium 1. If there is a number with the atom in the parentheses already like (H2O)2 then multiply the two numbers and get H=hydrogen 4.

To remove parentheses: MgO2H2. This is useful if you need to calculate formula weight from:

Atomic weights: Mg = 24 O = 16 H = 1 Mg(OH)2 = 58

Mg=1, O=2 and H=2
b/c u just multiple the number to all the elements inside the parenthesis.
