I have a dollar that has a hollow star at the end of the green numbering and lettering on the lower left and upper right sides of the bill. What does it mean?

It means the original bill with the serial number had an error in printing and had to be destroyed. The bill you have is a replacement bill with an identical serial number (and a star).

It means that it is a replacement bill. The original one (with the same serial number) was damaged in the printing process or was otherwise unsuitable for circulation.
