IQ has no correlation to mental health. so "crazy people" can have high or low IQs. there is no way to tell from their score.

The normal IQ? The average IQ for humans is 100, arbitrary number. Mentally ill individuals fall all over the spectrum of IQ distribution, though in a severely disrupted or depressive phase an individual's accessible, or functional, IQ may be lower due to inability to concentrate. Also the challenges involved in testing a person who is actively psychotic may result in a score that does not reflect their true potential. I myself, a bipolar who also has OCD, score in the 140s. Bipolars actually seem to test out as somewhat brighter than the average, which may mean something genetically and may be a research artifact. People simply haven't been taking us seriously for long enough to do a lot of hard research-you know, because we're "crazy". Also, insane is not a medical term, but a legal one. Mentally ill is not only less insulting terminology, but much more accurate.

IQ is not corelated with insanity/craziness. These conditions affect a person's perception and motives rather than their actual intelligence, so they have an IQ very similar to that of an ordinary person, mind you they are not neccessarily compatible with socially accepted values and ethics. ex.Hitler, The guy from the story a beautiful mind, The rain man. All relatively smart people, but you probably wouldn't want to be their friend!

There is no such thing. 100 IQ means that someone's mental age is normal for his intellect. Higher or lower does not reflect or contribute to insanity. One has nothing to do with the other because insanity happens in both low and high groups, and also sanity.

I don't have the exact figure handy, but I have read from multiple sources that the average IQ of a person suffering from a psychotic disorder is somewhat below the average for the population as a whole (so <100).

Although psychosis can occur in people of every degree of intelligence and from many causes, psychologists consider intelligence to be an insulating factor against the development of psychosis. Something called cognitive disinhibition is a factor common to both psychotic patients and highly creative individuals, and that basically means both types of people have a freer flow of ideas.

That can range. Some serial killers who were declared legally insane had fairly hi IQ's. You can be "smart" but still have no grasp of bad from good.

Look at the uni-bomber. A Harvard PHD, but his actions and living habits were far from sane.

Mentally ill people can have both high and low IQs. There is really no correlation. Mental illness really has nothing to do with IQ.

I doubt that it can be measured in the same way as people who are sane. IQ test measure how we see and process information, and people who are insane tend to not see the world in the same way.

Intelligence and mental illness co-exist but vary in quality. I think that a very intelligent person could mask his insanity and such have done so, historically.

it could be below 70 which would make you functionally retarded like the other user said. but maybe you mean "insane/crazy" like a mad scientist. Think Ted Kaczynski the Unabomber he was a genius I think, so well above 130.
