OK... here is the kool aid deal..... years ago there was a cult lead by a guy named Jim Jones I think it was. He told all his members to drink kool aid laced with poison to commit suicide because of some stupid idea he had. They all knew it had poison, but they drank it because the leader told them to.
The republicans say the democrats do whatever the party leader tells them to do, regardless if it is good or bad for the country, party loyalty is everything. republicans are more for individual thinking, make decisions based on your own personal experiences, not based on what someone tells you to do or because someone says it is a good idea.
The saying has nothing to do with Kool Aid, its about the attitude. And yes... I have drank my share of Kool Aid.

I think you have it backwards. Democrats call some right-wingers "Kool-aid drinkers" because they blindly follow Bush no matter what he does wrong. This stems from the tragedy at Jonestown when Jim Jones told all of his followers to drink poisoned Kool-aid and they all did it and died. Read up on it!
"Drinking the Kool-aid" has become a short way of describing people who don't think for themselves.

The Reverend Jim Jones took a congregation of about 900 down to Guyana, and gave them cyanide-laced kool-aid and told them they were going to heaven. It's Heavens-gate, 1980s-style.
"Kool-aid drinkers" just refers to the "true believers" of every damn extremist sect who are so fanatical they'd swallow cyanide koolaid if their leader told them to do so..
