Sometimes when your urine is too highly concentrated it can become dark and have a high odor. If you want this to improve you could try drinking more water every day, especially if you don't drink that much that often. Certian foods can also cause odor. Infections like E. coli can make your urine smell bad.

"Many factors affect urine color, including fluid balance, diet, medications, and disease. The intensity of the color generally indicates the concentration of the urine; pale or colorless urine indicates that it is dilute, and deep yellow urine indicates that it is concentrated. Vitamin B supplements can turn urine bright yellow. Reddish brown urine may be caused by certain medications; by blackberries, beets, or rhubarb in the diet; or by the presence of blood in the urine. Well...my experience is it's related to what we eat. Water solubule vitamins that your body doesn't absorb exit via the urine. Hence bright yellow pee after taking vitamins or eating very nutritious foods.
And most folks know that aspargus makes your pee smell funny.
And lots of beets will make it pink...
I've also noticed cloudy urine when I'm eating too much protien.

I've also noticed sometimes when I'm sick there are changes, which could be related to metabolism, it could also be because I eat differently when I'm sick. And everyones body has it's unique chemistry, so it can also be an individual thing.

Substitute plain water for other beverages you are drinking, and I'll bet you see a change right away.

Asparagus makes most people's urine have a strong smell. And, as many others have mentioned, drinking too little water results in concentrated urine which also smells strong.

Sounds like it is highly concentrated. Certain foods however, can cause a strong odor like asparagus. If it is really yellow, then that means it is highly concentrated, and you should drink more water.
