Why, oh why did you get that board. What it has is a proprietary slot, called an AGI Express slot. It is some type of weird combination AGP and PCI Express slot, it only works with certain video cards. Here is a list of compatible cards from the manufacturer website:http://www.asrock.com/support/VGA/show.asp?Model=775i945GZ
If anyone else tells you "it will work with any PCI Express" or "it won't work with any" don't listen, they are not familiar with the uniqure situation you are facing with that board.

Yes, the 4x slot will run any pci-e card but a bit slower.
But if you want to be 100% sure , these are the only 2 officially supported cards with your chip directly from ASRock's site:
1- NVIDIA GeForce 6800GT ASUS Extreme N6800GT
2- NVIDIA GeForce 6600GT Gigabyte GV-NX66T256DE
But again any card should work.

You can, if the physical connection is large enough. The 4x slot is probably referring to the electrical connection, in which case the card will just run a bit slower because of having a quarter of its normal bandwidth available.
Look at this wikipedia page, take a look at the length of the slot you want to stick it in, physically, is it a 16x or 4x slot? That will answer your question for you.

personally, if you have that much bread to buy a high end card like that, upgrade your board too. That way you won't run into another problem like this later. if you don't want to upgrade your board, go with a lesser pciE 4x card (note, it's not always the best idea to buy a badass card if you have a lowbrow board. that board is the first to handle vista so it's bound to carry some glitches. Be wise when spending that much on a system). the choice is yours.
