If I'm going to write a story with dialogue, how would I write, ah, something like, "Bob said, '....' " in Spanish?

Bob dijo.
Dijo = Third person past of decir(= to say).

decir = to say
digo dices dice. decimos deceis dicen

past tense (remember it is an irregular verb)
dije dijiste dijo dijisteis...

Therefore, Bob dijo, < > Quotations are not used in the Spanish language, they have those arrow things. My teacher never really cared though.

if said is in preterite (or past tense) it would be "bob dijo"
