I am not sure I could pick just one, and I have certainly not been to every city.

New York: First time I went in the early 90's I hated it. It was dirty. The beggars were aggressive. But in 2001 (the summer before 9/11), my wife talked my into going back with my kids and I loved it. It was like a new city. (Thank God for Rudy Giuliani). There is some much to do and see. Museums, food, entertainment etc. It is a great walking city.

Chicago: I have been to Chicago many times as it is within an easy drive of my home. Much like New York, there are just tons of things to do and see. It is also less expensive over-all than New York. The Michigan Ave. area is also a great walking area.

Charleston, S.C.: This is one of my favorite places period, city or not. A small, very interesting city. Historically and architecturally very interesting. Excellent restaurants, particularly famous for seafood. Hyman's Seafood and Deli is a must for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Also try one of the restaurants that specializes in "low country" cuisine. There are beach resorts not too far away

New York, just because there is so much culture and entertaiment. Anyone with any personality could find something to do there without wanting to leave. You could never be bored there.
