Amino acid, fatty acids, nucleotides, and monosaccharides (sugars)

Proteins are composed of amino acids linked together by amide bonds from the -COOH of one to the alpha-NH2 of the next. Lipids are not macromolecules, so they don't have monomers. They are either steroids or esters of long-chain fatty acids with glycerol. Nucleic acids are polyesters of ribose or deoxyribose and phosphoric acid. The ribose or deoxyribose monomer units are linked to bases like guanine adenine, cytidine, thymine, or uracil. Carbohydrates are polymers of glucose and other monosaccharide sugar molecules.
