One thing is to learn how to breathe with your diaphragm, a shelf of muscle below the lungs. When you breathe, take the air in deeply, not raising the chest, but rather feel it in your abdomen, pushing the air down and using your diaphragm to control it. With this learned you have MUCH more control over the air flowing thru and over your vocal cords and your singing will much improve. If you took vocal lessons, that would be one of the first things you would be working on no doubt.
