A highly figured maple top, Either flamed or quilted that is relatively free from voids or blank spots. The option is available on all of their maple toppped guitars, except for CE and SE Models, for an up charge. For an even higher upcharge you could go with the Artist package which gives you an even higher grade top, gold hardware, paua bird inlays and headstock signature.

A 10 top, whether it is a PRS or most any other builder refers to the quality of the wood figure ranked 1 (lowest) to 10 (best).

That being said, it is sometimes difficult for the typical person to differentiate between an 8 top from a 10 top, for example because the grain structure also has a role to play as well as color and personal preference.

Most wood suppliers use highly figured woods for veneers that are as thin as 1/100" so the appearance is there but the thickness is not. High quality woods the thickness of a carved top is difficult to come by.
