Married only 3 years. Before I married, paid off 90% of house. Worked hard 20 years to buy house. Wife brought nothing into the marriage. Saved money in retirement plan and RRSP's. Wife did not accept responsiblities of marriage. Did not cook, clean, shop for groceries, wash laundry, etc. Slept in a separate bedroom most of the time. Got a job as an escort and earned more than me. Used my car to meet customers. Kept all money in a separate bank account. Gave none to me. Was hardly home and I was lonely all the time. Wife treated herself to expensive clothes, makeup, shoes, jewellery, purses, etc. Still love my wife but have to divorce. Cannot live with such a selfish person any longer. Broke promises to quit job and be a better wife. What was your experience with unequal division? I know courts are women friendly but this is so unfair. If I have to pay 50%, I would be in alot of debt for 20+ years. Thanks to all.

In most cases 3 years is not a long time for her to deserve haft of your assets. my sister was only married for 2 years and all the judge awarded her was the car she was living in California.

Check the laws in your state. It's usually 50/50. Also get a good lawyer and you might make out better than you thought if she makes more money then you and she might have to get less. Has happened. The house would be the one thing i would talk to the lawyer about and especially all the money she makes. You could get by with paying as little as possible. Good luck.

It would help to know what state you live in. In South Carolina, if a man and woman even pretend to be married on paper (sign a rental contract, etc), she can go after half of his total assets, including future retirement pay if she doesn't remarry. Get a really good divorce attorney!

~~good luck~~

It depends on the laws of your state, but without a prenuptial agreement, it's normally 50/50.
