our family computer is a multiprocessor computer and it lists it as having two 3hz P4 proc's. i dont know if that means that we have two processors on our motherboard or what. my mom doesnt want me to look inside it and the key that locks the case is long gone anyway. anyone know what is up?

when i look in the device manager under the hardware it lists processors i click the button and it displays current hardware. the hardware in the list is two 3ghz P4 processors they are seperate entities. and under the cpu section of the ahrdware it says "ACPI multiprocessor PC". i know that a dual core is just what it says but this leads me to beliive my motherboard has two P4's on it which sounds strange to me.

Ok that is not enough info to really be sure.

But if you say it's a P4 then I think you have a single core P4 with Hyper-Threading Technology, and with that technology it makes a single core cpu look like a 2 cpu chip to windows.

If you want to be really sure download this app. :

It will tell you exactly what you have.

that dosen't make sense? a pentium 4 is not dual core not at all
do you mean it's clock speed is 2.3ghz? that seems more likley
and you wouldn't see 2 processors they are on the same chip and you would have to take the heatsink off and remove your cpu and then know what your looking for.
i don't think it is a dual core pc

If it is dual core, it means it has two processors on one die- just one cpu socket.
