Can someone give me a good definition of what straight-laced means? Someone called me that the other day and I think I kinda know what it means, but I want to know for sure.

It means that you "go by the book" and stay out of trouble. You keep clear of bad influences. That is a good thing! ;)

Keeping to the rules, the norm. Never capable of straying even a little. Always overly 'good'. For example you might be called straight laced if you won't even TASTE a beer, or won't wear a v-neck for fear it is too revealing, or you are totally incapable of saying anything bad about anyone for any reason. It isn't a BAD thing unless you think you might be too strict, yourself.

Straight-laced or strait-laced means prudish. "Strait" is a synonym for "strict", and it refers to the corsets that women used to wear before WW2. It's not a metaphor, it's a synecdoche pronounced "sin-ek-do-kee". That is a figure of speech where a part of something represents all of it, such as 'skirt' for a girl or 'wheels' for a car. A metaphor is when you say one thing is like another except you omit the word 'like' and say one thing *is* another, such as "That girl is a fox."

My definition of 'straight laced' would be someone who follows the rules of society, someone who does what is 'right'. I think you should be flattered by that description!

It means, neat and organized. Not very wild or impulsive. Depends on what kind of person you are but if someone called me that I'd be kinda annoyed.

It means someone who does only exceptable things
they meant it as a put down but you should be happy about it .
