To those who much is given, much is expected. I agree that your government needs to wake up and see the hurting and needy people within your own country... but I don't think cutting off funding to other countries is the solution. When you actually see how little the rest of the world has, it is almost sickening to think of how much the majority of us in North America have.
First, I think corporate America needs to step up to the plate to help within America. I also think more needs to be done in the governmental system to create balance--the increasing gap between rich and poor within the US is astonishing. Politicians need to remember that democracy and capitolism are not the same thing... in fact their true principles are at odds sometimes. There is still room and necessity for social networks within a democratic society.

Uhh, actually the United States government dedicates away less than 1% of its total budget to foreign aid. You have to put things in retrospect, do you even know how much money is in the Federal Budget?
Let me take the shepherds cane for a moment and let you in on it...2.8 trillion dollars! A couple billion dollars here and there is surely a lot of money, but in comparison to the rest of the pie, it is not that much.
Question everything you hear before regurgitating it on to every one.

Because when we have a disaster those people will come to our aid. But i do agree with working on the problem we have here in America. We need to donate money to mexico to keep their poor people from infiltrating America.

While I understand your feeling on this, and I too get frustrated at times with the smack talk I hear, we can't do this. It isn't in our nature. America has always been one to extend a helping hand when disaster strikes. The tsunami, the earthquakes in the southern hemisphere...on and on. And truthfully, it does my heart good to know that we are good in this way. We make mistakes as anyone else does, but we are also capable of such great kindness..there's no good reason to stop now really.

What are you doing in 2008? Would you consider a run for president? We need to clean up our own backyard and solve our own nation's problems first. Look at Katrina, it has hardly been touched by this administration. And here we are back in Somalia? Don't the Republicans remember the last time we tried to help there?!
