Get good references. If you have three people with different relationships to you, and meaningful things to say, I don't know why you would put a fourth.

Three is the standard number of references for a job or credit. You really do not need to list more unless you are applying for a job with the FBI. If references are not requested, then they are usually just a waste of time and may annoy the recipient.
