The answer to your Question is the Atlatl. This device enabled the spear thrower to throw his spear Faster,Farther, with Deadly accuracy. It was shaped like an elongated shaft, with a cup,or spur at the end,in which the spear rested. The spear was thrown by using the action of the upper forearm and wrist, and shifting the throwers body weight forward. It came into use sometime between 18000 BC and 16000 BC Some think it was instrumental
in the extinction of the Wooly Mammoth, and the Sabre Tooth Tiger.

A shovel
A native American would hold a spear and then, just as he was about to throw it, another native American would whack him over the head with the shovel, thus making said native American throw further.
Killed him, but threw further.

I do not know what they called it but it is made of twigs form into a circle with little circles in it. They roll it in the ground and the Indian will shoot it by arrow or by spear. The one who can nail it down in the middle little circle, wins the contest. It is their target practice object for the rabbits in real hunt.
