instruction booklet. Brother cannot help me, as they do not have the instruction booklet and cd. I bought this printer in 2003. Do I throw this printer away now? Is it useless?

what do you mean Brother doesn't have it? The instruction booklets for all their models from the last 8 years are online. And replacement installation cd's are normally $5 or $10.

Another option would be to go on eBay and look for someone selling theirs - same exact model - and email them. Offer them $5 or $10 to burn a copy of the CD before they ship it off to the high bidder. I've done this a couple times. That still leaves the instructions, but usually those are right on the CD anyway.

No just go to the Brother site and select your printer there. They will have a free download of the driver.

You don't need a cd, just go to the brother web site and download the correct drivers.

I also have a brother multifunction, useless thing that it is. Very little support from brother on the phone.

Did you try searching Brothers web site for the driver and manual? Every technology vendor has a support link where you can get drivers for their items and manuals also. Brother is no different.
