It seems these days all of the people just want to use you. They think friendship means money in the bank, or use of your car, house etc.

A freind is a gift you give yourself, a true freind, is the one who is there for you when things get ugly, a really true freind will never ask you for anything but your time.

I hear you. But we "need" friends because we are a social species. Friends or at least having people we know around us comforts us. Comfort in numbers.

Sounds like you are picking the wrong kind of people to be your friends. Real friends are not a burden.
