Okay....The premise of the movie is that everyone who enters the house is filled with rage, and dies....right? Then why doesn't the lead investigator die? I never got that....my brother said that to get the real answer, you have to watch the original movie, not the English version....also said something about the officer actually "being dead already". Any thoughts?

I watched both versions. I think the reason why the investigator didn't die was because he knew about the evil spirit. He knew what it could do and he was already lost in sadness. You'll also note that the Sarah Michelle Geller character doesn't die either because she worked it out too.
I definitely recommend the original Japanese version of both The Grudge and The Ring. It's a lot creepier and better. (If you don't mind subtitles)

Now you ruined it for me. I was waiting to get my hands on the DVD but now I know that key detail and my future viewing is pointless. Next you are probably going to say something about Santa Claus and ruin him for me too.

If they die they can't be in the sequel.
