the answer is also supposed to relate to the Charles Dickens book, "A Tale Of Two Cities" and I can't seem to find a good site that will just simply answer the question. please help!!!!

As it relates to the Book,1770 was when the tale of Two Cities began,leading up to the french revolution,guilliotines and all that gory stuff.I think the answer to your question lies in the tale of two main characters,Charles and Sydney,one from France,and the other from England.These two both loved Lucie Manette,the daughter of a french Doctor imprisoned in the Bastille.Charles got busted in England for Spying on English Troops in North America for France.But did He? No ones too sure because Charles and Sydney look alike!
To make a long story short,there was no love lost between the two men or countries in 1770.England and France had fought a war in the New World(North America) to see who would dominate the Americas,England kept Pressing french sailors into service on her ships,France responded by making slight of hand deals with the American(English)colonists,so on and so forth...

It lies deeper, both countries had the 100 year war in the medieval ages, and both warred before that. It dates back to religion and land quarrels. Despite diplomatically their friendly, the generaly populations do not like eachother.
