Talk to your grandfather about the 60's and you might find that you will learn a great deal. Be proud of your grandfather and the fact that he rides a motorbike. What's wrong with that? And what is normal anyway? We are all different. What a boring world it would be if each generation was the same as the one before. By the way, I still have my flower power denim jacket from the 60's and my kids and grandkids think it is rather neat that grandma is an aging hippie.

Oh, cool, I love long hair on men! You don't see too many older men with long hair, many give in to social pressure & have it cut when they get older... too bad :-( I think you shouldn't be so judgemental of people who happen to look a bit different, wouldn't the world be totally boring if we all followed the latest fashion, all looked & did exactly the same?
And in reply to someone else, drugs don't have anything to do with it! I have never tried any drug (even though pot is legal where I live!), have only been drunk once in my life, and yet I go barefoot & often like tie-dye & flowery 'hippie' clothes. I'm sure some hippies are potheads but as many just like the clothes/hairstyle etc.

I think it is unfair to put people into a box of normalcy. Chances are your grandpa lived through a time in which the "hippies" were an important part of society. They protested against war and supported and created amazing music. I think you should appreciate that your grandpa is willing to be himself and love him for it. Screw what your friends think. If you let them have an affect on your feelings for your family then that is just out of hand.

People don't turn into "hippies" We are because we are "HIP", your friends sound weird if they put people down for their looks. Are your friends racists too or are they just afraid of people who are different ?

back in the 60's thats when hippies evolved. wht they did was because they wanted to be free and do what they wanted to do. they would smoke drink do other things, etc. they were pretty brave people. they drive motorcycles and things like that. i think its pretty cool.

Why don't you talk to him, ask him about his life, try to find out for yourself why he is the way he is? He's your grandfather, surely you're a little curious about him as a person. Knowledge is the key to understanding. Besides, who wants "normal" grandparents?

Some people are sick of giving in to everyone else's rules on haircuts, clothing, etc. and want to do their own thing.
I think I'd like to hang with your grandpa.
