His movement to L.A. Galaxy seems huge, but he hasn't played spectacular in Real Madrid. Is he the most overrated soccer player right now?

Overrated? Yes definitely! Many people, especially those who are unfamiliar with the sport will think that Beckham is the greatest but I don't think so. Beckham is great, no doubt! His free-kick accuracy is mind-boggling at times, his long-pass is inch-perfect, he can make a brilliant play from the right wing. However, as a football player, he has some notable weaknesses. He lacks pace, he's not much of an offensive threat inside the penalty area and lately, his penalty kicks miss by a very wide margin which makes one doubt about his composure/coolness.

Judging from the comments of many people, I think he's too overrated. Because comparing him with the present "greats" like Zidane, Ballack, Figo, Vieira, Nedved, Gerrard, Ronaldinho, Giggs Totti, Kaka Juninho and Pirlo (note: all of these are midfielders or wingers). I think these guys are playing more"complete" football as compared to Becks. Becks for me is a specialist, but judging his over-all abilities, his rating for me is not that "great".

Sorry MRod but this is my point of view. His (beckham's) presence on the pitch is not that as "strong" as the players I mentioned above.

No...Because that is not where all the hype lies. It's a huge deal because it is DAVID BECKHAM and he is stepping down into the MLS. And also in the large sum of money he will be receiving. The attention not coming from his skills and what they will do, but rather his image and how it'll change the MLS. So, no, he's not overrated right now, because people aren't so much talking about his ability as a player. People are talking about his fame and his money and how it's going to change soccer in the US.

No he is not Overated, the reason it is huge it because he is one of the best soccer players in the world and the U.S should be glad and very lucky that they are getting such an awesome player, now they might actually have a chance at being a decent team. Just like any human being he will have good and bad days when it comes to his playing, but he has proven himself over and over that he is great at what he does.

I guess the ones that think he is overated probably have no clue when it comes to playing soccer, which is actually FOOTBALL in the rest of the world. If he wasn't worth it, they wouldn't shell out the millions for him. Maybe you guys actually need to watch some footage of him playing.

He is worth every penny, just like people like Joe Montana and John Elway were for American Football.

I think Beckham knows he is close to being 'washed up' and maybe heading to the States (no offence) is his last go at it. He is overrated without a doubt. He couldn't possibly be worth that amount of money to do what he does. As for his far too skinny wife - she would LOVE to be accepted into Hollywood and make it big herself but I think she will just have to be satisfied with being a trophy wife.....they both have the look for the moment but not much else...
