iFriends is one of the most reputable web services out there, and the best webcam network in the world. They've been in business since 1995 and are approved and registered with every major consumer protection agency, including the Better Business Bureau and TrustE. The service really is free, unless you specifically request premium pay services. They require a credit card in order to help verify you are an adult. That's because most of the millions of users of the service engage in "mature-themed" conduct. Simply put, they want to make sure you're not a kid looking for porn.

I would absolutely not give out your credit card number to anyone, no matter what they said, unless u are actually purchasing something on a secure site and get confirmation numbers. Don't put urself out there like that......
