i think it's quite shameful you know
if he managed to stay at man utd, he could have been included in the giggs, solskjaer & scholes "loyal gang" and be respected & loved by football fans forever. his career's been heading downwards since his move to real madrid and i think it's such a waste, esp when his free kicks are still legendary
it'll be cool if he's been humble and not going around for $$$ & fame & stuff , or look where he's ending up at now>?

If you're valuing him in terms of winning games, yeah, that's ridiculous. He's still better than most midfielders in the MLS, but not THAT much better, especially given his advancing age. But that's not how the Galaxy is valuing him. He's worth that much in terms of marketing the team, selling jerseys, and developing the game/league in the US. Real Madrid has seen that. Even though Beckham has been a bench player for much of his term in Madrid, he has brought in tremendous revenues for the club, allowing it to pass ManU as the wealthiest club in football. I expect that Beckham will probably make the Galaxy about $100,000 per day in the short-term. And if you add in the long-term benefits he'll bring the team in terms of increased interest in the MLS, he's well worth the price they're paying.

I think it's rediculous, that a guy playing a game is getting paid $50 million a year. And I thought A-Rod's deal he signed with the Texas Rangers a few years ago was outragous.

I THINK BY PAYING HIM so much, Galaxy is as if financing Beck's travel, house and personal life. Galaxy is not paying him for the football because he is simply no longer good enough to win a match on his own.

i have heard over here that if the us gets the football going over here he might be one of the premiere players. As Beckham would draw in people who know about him and the sport

That is ridiculous, even if it was for a legitimate sport such as Baseball or Football. I don't know why they think we Americans will suddenly become interested in soccer... its not a sport worth watching ... or capitalizing. =)
